“besides that, what are YOU doing here? All the gym leaders meet in this place”

Focus is on gym leaders only, and clearly the visitor is not a gym leader and this guy is being a twat about it.

Notes :
The この場所に being placed at the end of the sentence, instead of この being at the front (followed by the explanation) is used for emphasis. It is similar to saying ‘this’ -of all places-, in English. ‘Why are YOU here, of all places!’

でもいくら小さいとはいえリモワのトランクがあたればハナ血も出るさ

リモワ is a luggage brand. There are quite a few natural ways to translate this in English! See if you can use more than one of the potential translations of this grammar point.

Even if we say that the Rimowa is small, if that suitcase hits you, you’ll get a nosebleed.

I have no idea...

But even if Rimowa is small, if that trunk gets to you, you’ll get a nosebleed.

But no matter how small a リモワ suitcase is, if you are hit with one, your nose will bleed.

It can be whatsoever small, nonetheless if you get hit by a Rimowa suitcase, you’ll get a nosebleed.

Summary

No matter how small, a rimowa suitcase is equivalent to a nose bleed. (I guess like the “meme-y” anime nosebleeds of lust? This is why I chose the “to be equivalent to” meaning of 当たる instead of the more direct “to be hit” “to be in contact with”) But I’m VERY uncertain. If I have some time later in the day I might look up the commercials to see if it’s a known joke about the brand :man_shrugging:

about "to be equivalent" meaning

As I understand, you need a noun marked by に to work it like that.
Something like ハナ血を出すのといえばメアリーさんの乳を見ることがゆきさんの乳を見ることに当たる :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Nonetheless no matter how small, if you have a Rimowa trunk, your nose bleeds, you see.

Translation

But no matter how small the Rimowa suitcase is, if you win, you’ll be thrilled

Summary

The grammar point here is とはいえ which can be translated as although, or nonetheless, but in combination with いくら+小さい I think in this case it is emphasizing the fact that no matter how small the suitcase it is it will be exciting to win.

あたれば - this is kind of tricky because あたる has a few different meanings, but since it’s paired with が and is in the potential form I think it is safe to say in this context it is referring to winning (e.g. a lottery, or contest)

ハナ血も出る - literally to have a nose bleed, but it is usually associated with a guy seeing something visually arousing(in manga). I guess it can also be used to express normal excitement too.

Notes :
This has been one of the more difficult translations so far, mainly because of how literal it is. It is saying that ‘regardless of how small/flimsy it looks, because the trunk is so well constructed, if you’re hit by it, it won’t break, your nose will’.
