Have you done your BunPro Review today?

Thanks, I think I’ll try that! I was running into the problem that a lot of the 10k words were using kanji I’ll learn later on WK and it was making things unnecessarily difficult so mining is probably a good solution to that.

As for reading, I’m waiting for my books for the beginners book club now! I think having the extra support and motivation to go at a preset pace will be helpful for me. I am a supreme procrastinator after all, which is why I have to have my kanji and grammar mapped out for me :stuck_out_tongue:

You could also set up your core cards differently. I set up my so I have only the sentence audio on the front of the card. I try to understand the full sentence but as long as I got the main vocab correct, it is a pass.

On the back, I see the japanese sentence and try to read it but that is just for a little extra exposure.

I like going through the core deck since it has native audio and as already mentioned, it also reinforces what you learn on WaniKani. I tried mining and the yomichan approach for a while but it was always a bit messy and even if I automatically generated audio for those cards it was just not the same. So I only use the core deck and subs2srs cards now. Anki is so much nicer imo with real native audio.

That all being said:

  • I got my 300 WaniKani reviews down to 0 today (250 lessons on one day was a stupid idea but I knew that while I was doing it and I’m still glad that I got back to 0 kessons)
  • Did all my Anki reviews. For a long time now I always had hundreds of reviews waiting for me so this is nice
  • Bunpro: went down from 200 to 150 yesterday, now there are 192 reviews waiting for me again. This will be a bit of a battle but such is life.

Done my reviews on Wanikani, Bunpro, and Torii. Didn’t realise for a while that you had to switch the button from JP->Eng to Eng->JP to do reviews the other way round on Torii. I’m quite liking it. Still learning the level 10 vocab slowly on WK, I still have a bunch to add before I can start on the Level 11 content. Added a few lessons on BP today. Not sure I understand てあげる yet, but とき seems useful, and I already knew と思う. Also, in BP reviews, even though it lists お in the verb reading, I’m still saying お in my head, but typing あ. I think this will always haunt me. I know it’s “o”, but I hit the “a” key >_<

Wow! 250 in a day sounds absolutely crazy!!

Good Evening!

  • I hit 0 reviews again both on WK & BP today!

  • I learned that I should disable bunny mode to be able to hear BP audio after reviewing
  • I must read about より〜の方が again on BP & DBJG. Especially about this last one. There’s no の after adj2な yamerocat_small before 方が insert Adj here.

  • I levelled up from level 24 to level 25 on BP yesterday I guess.
  • Study Streak 53 despite blackout again :sob:
  • My guru items got lower than my master items on WK  Nevertheless I may level up from 22 to 23 on WK before February 1st, 2019 though.
  • I’m grateful for practising handwriting kanji again using 漢字練習ノート小学一年生. I’m on page 24 now. Slowly but surely.

Yesterday ran by me. I had scheduled time for Japanese in the evening but when I finished dinner my brain literally shut off. I barely made myself take care of WK reviews that had piled up since noon the day before. I also did BP reviews.

This means I’ve missed adding new lessons for a couple of days on both WK and BP and I’m not sure if I’ll get to them today either because I didn’t have time for enough sleep and my brain is finished for the day (I have an almost headache lurking which always happens when I don’t sleep enough).

This also means that today when I leveled up on WK (9!), I have a huge pile of vocab left from lvl 8. If I’d kept up, it would 25 more items smaller, but alas. First time I’ve wanted to say to WK to wait don’t level me up yet! But I wasn’t going to skip reviews to do that.

Did all WK and BP reviews this morning, only one mistake for WK for new kanji, still waiting for level up.

  • Having trouble on こと and そういう
  • I’ll add another lessons to BP since my lower streaks have been zero for couple of days, I need to fill all 1 to 4 to keep learning new stuff

I’ve been thinking of getting iKnow subscription. It’s quite expensive. Is it worth it or just a waste of time? I’ve tried the anki deck but seems like the app worked better as it has sentence trainer.

What kind of problem?

Maybe I can help. :+1:

I’m still don’t understand when to use each of one these, I think it’s better to have a deeper explanation in the meaning section instead of a link referring to other site. It will be quite handy on mobile.
こういう + Noun
そういう + Noun
ああいう + Noun
どういう + Noun

  • Doing OK with WaniKani (as well as one can do with 288 Apprentice items… ) and keeping up with Anki. Life is pretty OK in that area
  • Still fighting my way down to 0 with BunPro reviews. I just made it down to 67 reviews but I’m sure I’ll be back to more than a 100 soon. But things are going into the right direction  Having decided to go for the N3 in July has really motivated me to study more again

On BP, I seem to have a million reviews for あげる. It means I am coming to understand the meaning of it though. One thing I keep forgetting it that it is past tense for 方がいい. On WK, yesterday finished off the Level 10 vocab, lessons, and added all the Level 11 radicals. Today I started adding a couple of the level 11 kanji. I’m also enjoying Torii still, especially the Eng->JP, as that’s what you don’t do in WK, and I never bother with kaniwani, this seems better for actual vocab.

Oh, I quite liked this picture from the BP stats page, I’ve feel like I haven’t touched any of the N4 grammar, but it’s already 10% of my total!

Finished WK and BP this morning.

  • WK level up, I’m going to add 15 new lessons today or 25 if I’m not tired
  • No mistakes on BP this morning. I finally get the differences between より and より~の方が by reading the dictionary and comparing it to the grammar point on BP
  • Not going to add new lessons on BP, I’ll do more cram today instead for the troubled grammar.

Did reviews on BP and WK yesterday. Also added 15 vocab lessons from level 8. I also noticed that level 9 unlocked with less vocab than level 8, so I might want to do a little reorder right before I finish vocab from level 8 so I don’t have any days without lessons I can do.

No new lesson on BP and realized just now that I’ve gotten into my head again that I NEED to do 2-3 lessons or none will do, except I’d rather do 1 than 0, so hopefully I’ll get to at least one today.

Good morning!

  • Getting a lot of reviews on WK due to new level, like a hundred of them
  • Still maintaining 92% with most of the new lessons in check, so I felt great.
  • As for BP, I only got one mistake for the tense. I should have entered past tense instead of present tense.
  • I found out that ああいう = あの, そういう= その, こういう= この so it got easier by referencing to these.

Not going to add new lessons on both WK and BP, I’ll do more cram instead.

30 day streak badge. Yay!

Reviews on both WK and BP early in the day, but not later. I went to the funeral for my grandfather, so didn’t feel up to anything after that. So no lessons either.

Question: What dictionary should I use? I tried downloading JMnedict.xml.gz but I’m not sure. I don’t know how to use yomichan. I went to this yomichan download page though. And what file extension should I upload to yomichan dictionaries?

Sorry to hear that! I hope you are doing okay.

I use: jmdict_english.zip and kanjidic_english.zip.
innocent_corpus.zip is also good since it shows how often the word appears in novels (so if frequency is very low you can decide to not learn the word).

Then you add those to yomichan by using “Choose file” (and selecting them in the window that pops up). It will take around a minute to install jmdict and few seconds for kanjidict.

That’s all.

To use the translation feature you simply hoover the mouse over the unknown word while holding shift pressed.
The translation will pop up.

Do you use any Japanese-only dictionaries on Yomichan?

@MissDagger I’m sorry to hear that.

Good morning.

  • One mistake on WK because of the meaning of 絵, I answered picture. That’s the first thing came from my mind, seeing many 絵本 in readings
  • No mistake on BP, I added 3 new lessons to fill up all streaks  Going to learn all sentences today
  • It’s been few days since I used cram. It helps to study problematic grammar. Love it, I’ll continue using it when I don’t add any new lessons.
