Finally completed the N5 review today, reached 16 lv. It has been a week it seems, since 28 Mar. I thought I would be able to finish the last 20-item portion faster, but my job sucked my brainpower dry these three days, so I am happy for the completion as a fact already. Reviews are ahead, then N4.
Will go and try to read at least a page - and then a nice shutdown for today
Added three new Grammar points in BP and a couple new Words to Torii. Completed also all my reviews
おはようございます。
- I zeroed BP and WK reviews both.
- I zeroed Tobira Vocabulary deck, N5 deck, 10k - Kitsun optimized deck, Katakana 4.5k deck, Noragami Vol. 1 deck, and most importantly my own Mining deck on Kitsun.
- I just added 20 lessons on Katakana 4.5k deck on Kitsun.
- I studied/added three lessons on BP yesterday but failed to complete it because miaou (read: life).
- BP Study Streak 123.
- I didn’t take any screenshots.
A new beautiful day in Japan, and I just zero:d my BP reviews and doing my daily report, because I usually do in the morning, except I did one last night. Oh well…
Also, leveled up here on BP just now, lvl 28 now.
Today I finally realised why I kept getting things wrong for 新しい… I kept typing あたらくして and didn’t understand why that was wrong and あたらしくして was right… and I finally realised the the extra し comes from the word 新しい! I think because it was separate from the kanji I was ignoring it.
I’ve also been getting the ら and れ the wrong way round in しんじられない for ages, and finally got it right this evening!
Also it’s been a while, so I forgot you have to make the verb negative before the いけない/ならない, also that’s it’s いけない and not いかない. I guess this is why the SRS intervals are good, because I thought I knew that grammar point well, but… turns out I had mistakes and needed to relearn them. (Similarly, yesterday I forgot you had to make the verb past tense before ほうがいい)
So full report on yesterday, did BP reviews as I’ve already said. Added zeroing WK reviews. Also added 5 lessons on WK, 4 vocab and 1 radical. Plus I installed a new script so now I can see how much vocab I have left from the last level and actually see progress there. SO nice.
Apparently I only have 3 vocab left from last level.
Also cherry blossom season is amazing.
@MissDagger I sure am jealous haha Maybe you can share the one or other picture
What script are you using?
Done my BP review again as well as the Torii review. I slowly seem to find a rythm again. I’ve also started practicing speaking again but not as regularly as I wish so far. WK I haven’t taken out of vacation mode yet. Tho I do notice that I like it better to study new Kanji, rather then coming across them in Torii. But one step at a time
But today I got it the wrong way round in みつけら れ なくて
Still getting my negatives mixed up in the いかない/ならない… especially the なくて bit, I keep typing ないで
But added 3 new points today on BP anyway…
I like using this one:
Has a nice visual indicator of how many points are at each apprentice level and unlearned/still locked per level. And on hover over it tells you the number. It’s nice having that regularly stages levels in the vocab like on my bottom row there. Speaking of which, after I took that screenshot, I did indeed add the last 10 unlearnt points.
The way I use Torii is to mainly use the audio/hiragana, and don’t really look at the kanji. I try to only pay attention to it when words have the same pronunciation, like my two たざねる’s I mentioned above, both of which have kanji I haven’t learnt in WK yet. I have been trying to input the katakana answers in katakana though, as I’m still really flaky with that…
@Andulien I’ll be sharing more picture at the WK forums, I have a thread there (https://community.wanikani.com/t/missdaggers-1-year-or-more-adventure-in-japan/33678/). But I’ll put one of them here right now:
@Jul3 That is the script I just installed. Andulien, it is called WaniKani Dashboard Level Progress Detail. Considering I often have quite a bit of vocab when I level up, it will be nice to see me working through that.
I also prefer learning kanji in WK first, because I just don’t use a method when doing Torii for the kanji, only for words when I need it.
So yesterday, I zero:d reviews on BP and WK. Added one BP point, still N5 since we got new ones again! Also did 10 lessons on WK, 2 radicals and 8 vocab. And the nice badge I hinted at arrived yesterday: 100 streak badge! Despite travel and time zone change. Go me!
BP and WK reviews once. 1 BP lessons and 10 WK lessons (3 radicals, 7 vocab).
It was interesting today when I was out. I heard someone say:
さくら、見たね。
And it took me a while to figure out what they said. First because of the pause between sakura and the rest, but then I was like “みた? みた? What is that” until I realized that sakura went together with that and then I was like “Oh! 見る! I get it.”
Written I would have recognized it without problem, but spoken? Yeah… took a while. Good thing I was just accidentally eavesdropping and not actually talking to someone.
I think I still have about 200 words from N4 to add on Torii, I’ve been finding the N4 vocab really useful. I’ve almost finished 5/10 of the Lesson sections for N4 on Bunpro, so I guess I’m about halfway through N4 content in general. I don’t need to state how useful I’ve found the N4 grammar on BP and how I look forward to completing it and want to do more lessons. D
Levelled up to Level 16 on Wanikani. A bit later than expected, but still back to almost my quickest time levelling up, and half the time of the last two levels. Added the radicals tonight and will start on the kanji/vocab tomorrow.
I need to start thinking about what I’m going to do RE: speaking practice, I’d rather do something IRL than online so should try out a local study group or contact a tutor sometime… if not, I’ll try something online.
WK level up, iKnow is behind at 35% for the WK level, still a lot of words
N4 vocabulary words is now at 48%.
Total 1566 words on iKnow, planning to get 2000 by next month.
As for BP, still struggling killing ghosts and increasing accuracy
Yesterday: Finished N5 here on BP for the THIRD time in the last couple of months. They just keep adding N5 lessons. ^____^
Also did my WK reviews once.
And since I didn’t update this morning. I was a little busy eating breakfast and then getting on shinkansen, I can now let you all know that I’m in Kyoto, in my new apartment with internet set up. Setting up a router with only Japanese on the pages with no way of translating the whole page because it wouldn’t let me, was interesting. It helped finding english instruction manuals on the different things I needed to do. ^____^
京都へようこそ! You still have time to see the cherry blossoms here! I recommended walking along the Kamogawa, there’s a bunch!
Thanks! I happen to live just a couple of blocks from the Kamogawa so I definitely will do that. Today or tomorrow. (More likely tomorrow, off to the municipal office today to register my address. But first language level test at my school!)
Grammar
I’ve been doing my BP reviews, I have less than 20 a day which is wonderful~. On one hand I’m excited for new lessons, but on the other hand I love having an easy workload lol.
I’ve also been watching 日本語の森N1文法 series and taking notes. Not trying to study them too seriously but it’s nice to feel ahead for once. I just finished the 30~ videos that were on regular grammar points. The rest are on 敬語・尊敬語 and 受け身・使役 which I’ve covered before. I think this’ll make for a good foundation when I start N1 on BP and 新完全マスター .
Vocab
Finished N1-N3 on Torii! I learned quite a few new words from N3, sadly…haha. And some I added just so I get that extra reinforcement, but most I skipped. I plan on doing N4 eventually after my apprentice count goes down.
Started 日本語の森オノマトペ series because that is definitely my weak point in terms of vocabulary. The videos are really fun and bite-sized and make learning all those onomatopoeia words pain and hassle-free. After each video I add them to FloFlo so I get that extra SRS.
Other
Idk if it really counts but I’ve been playing Tokyo Xanadu Ex+ for the past few days. The language is, obviously, really casual and probably not JLPT-relevant, but hey it’s something.
Lots of iKnow words are not in WK so it’s refreshing to listen some words are spoken on dramas. 300+ to target words, seems like I’m going to hit my target by the end of the month. Hitting 200 reviews a day on iKnow now.
Had less apprentice on WK, but keep forgetting radicals
Doing only reviews on BP everyday, have killed ghosts a lot so reviews are less than before. Seems like I’m confusing 以外 and しかない a lot
I haven’t touched N4 book yet since I haven’t finished reading N5
N5 book has a lot of hiragana and katakana, they are my weak spot.
As for listening and fun activity , I’m currently watching Ama-chan, a warm family drama which has short duration, only 15 minutes per episode.
Missed my morning review session, so only did reviews on the train after work… and only to not drop my 130+day streak… The session was really long… I completely forgot まで could mean “even”… I had no idea how to conjugate 晴れる, and I’m not quite sure when to use に or な after よう when it is followed by a noun+する. I should try making my own sentences with recently learnt BP grammar to cement it.
So pretty the picture Thanks for sharing your experience.
Since I’m back on a business trip, I get some train and hotel time to study some more.
Did my BP reviews as well as Torii.
I also took the big step to finally end the vacation mode on WK. Currently there are 184 Lessons to tackle, however I plan to take it slow here as the main focus will still continue to be BP and Torii for now until I got the N5 stuff done.
@Andulien Glad you liked it. I’ll share another picture next time I port my photos to my laptop.
I’ve been a bit busy the last few days. The last couple of days I did exactly one BP review to keep my streak. ^____^ I just now sat down and did the pile up. All of 18. I’m having trouble keeping あげる and くれる straight. And in some ways I think it was a picture in one of the readings that I first thought helpful, but right now it is only tripping me up. I think I’ll focus a lot on the BP hints for a while until maybe I don’t answer every くれる sentence wrong the first time. (I have multiple ghosts with just くれる.)
