Perhaps it flew over the radar, but you might want to use the を particle with the verb 知る. That said, I would personally go with this instead:
「クラスで一番背が高い人は誰？」
Who’s the tallest person in your class?
As opposed to:
「クラスで一番背が高い人を知っている？」
Do you know the tallest person in your class?
I think the first one is closer to the original intent, but I could be wrong.
