Have you written your Japanese Sentence today?

Ah nice thank you. Yeah I think as long as the final part of the sentence is in the correct tense then it’s OK?

Yeah, though like you noticed in some cases its more important like とき.
A lot of people will put attention to it in the から and ので case and for example ところ or
and としたら (たとしたら is perceived as less probable than るとしたら) etc

My thoughts/guesses:

I think you are missing the する making 料理 into a verb, as it just a noun. So it would be

卵が料理をしている

Also, I think 卵 isn’t really used as much in the concept of food, more if you saw a bird’s egg, and 玉子 is more used for eggs as food. It’s still read as たまご though. I’ve seen in in hiragana and katakana before as well, so not sure which to use really.

Also, I think one would rather use 作る (to make) rather than 料理 so I would say

玉子を作っている

先週姉に「姉さんの作ってくれた帽子が好きです、ほつれたのに今までかぶっている…」と言った。今日新しい手作りの帽子をもらったびっくりして嬉しかった!

Summary

Last week I said to my sister “I like that hat that you made me, I still wear it despite it being frayed”. Today, I was surprised and happy to receive a new handmade hat!

(I had to look up a word for “frayed” so hope that’s correct as well…)

Perfect!

先週姉に「姉さんの作ってくれた帽子が好きです、ほつれたのにまだかぶっている…」と言った。今日新しい手作りの帽子をもらった。びっくりして嬉しかった!

You can also say 帽子をもらってびっくりしたけど嬉しかった

And maybe だから instead of ですから. It might be too polite for someone as close as sister.

You can also use 今でも instead of まだ。

Thanks! I’m glad it made sense.

And thanks, upon re-reading I was thinking です was too polite but だ on it’s own sounds weird to me, so I didn’t know what particle to put, だから is a good one there.

Totally missed the verb! For eggs I really wasn’t sure what to use either. I saw both but I didn’t know however if I just write 「たまご」out then I’ll probably be safe =]

Making eggs sounds so weird in that sentence I now feel like I’m the hen laying the egg lol In japan is it uncommon to use 「料理」?

Not sure about this one at all but I gave it a shot.

This should be 休みなので. You need な after nouns and な adjectives when you’re using ので. You don’t need it after an い adjective.

I’m not 100% sure on this one myself, but personally I would put 空いている時間 - I would want someone better at Japanese than me to check that though.

Also I would personally make this into one sentence without the full stop as it rolls off the tongue more easily.

Hope this helps

Not that it’s necessarily incorrect, and it’s definitely a tricky conjugation to get right, but I’d personally ditch

for 暇 or 暇な時 to make it sound more natural.
