It sounds good. から would be good too.
Instead of ほうがいい you can use ばよかった
野菜を食べればよかった。
I should have eaten veggies.
By the way, you can also say:
食べ過ぎないようにしよう
I will do my best to not eat too much.
野菜を多く食べるようにしよう
I will do my best to eat more veggies.
It would be also good to add instead.
ケーキを食べ過ぎたから、お腹が痛かった。代わりに野菜を食べればよかった。

Explanation/Translation
This is my attempt at translating the line
"But he kept it all inside his head;
What he saw he left unsaid."
from DEH (Dear Evan Hansen).
It was done at work, so I could not look up vocab or grammar, though I did change 「こころ」 to「 心」 and 「こえ」 to 「声」when I got home. So everything is in the present tense and vocab is very limited.
I have no clue if 「ある」is the correct verb here. 「ある」と「いる」と「です」are so confusing. I just went with “A heart is an inanimate object”, but idk.
I originally had 「けど」instead of 「と」, but it’s too many syllables for the song. Also, I’m not sure if either can be used to connect two verbs, so it might be wrong regardless.
I don’t know the word for “to say”, so Evan’s going to have to put up with a lot of voice-doing.

You could do with a の between たくさん and 日本語. Or you could rephrase to 昨日日本語をたくさん勉強した which would also work.

書く練習が必要なので、毎日文章を書きたい。でも、毎回 何を書くか考えるのが難しいので、毎週 みんなでテーマを選んだらいいね。
(replacing ので with から is also OK, ので feels a bit more objective)
