BPの記事には乗っていないけど、「一方」という表現は、普段、不愉快な出来事のみに適用する気がします。「日本語のレベルが上がる」というのはとてもいい事だから、「一方」は少し引っかかる。
違うかな？とりあえず、例文は全部その感じですよね。
Although it’s not mentioned in the BP article, I feel like the phrase 一方 in the meaning “keeps on going” is usually reserved for unpleasant developments.
Since “improving one’s Japanese skills” is a very good thing, the use of 一方 feels a little bit off.
I might be wrong on this?
In any case, all the example sentences seem to use it that way, don’t they.
昨日一日中新しいゲームをしました。楽しかったです。まだ終わっていませんけれど、明日このゲームをクリアするつもりです。
Yesterday I played new game all day. I haven’t finished it yet, but I plan to finish the game tomorrow.
せっかく買っておいたケーキがすでに食べられてしまいました。
The cake that I had gone through the trouble of buying (in preparation for something) has already been eaten.

例えば英語で “I’ve been playing this game yesterday. I’m going to clear this game tomorrow” というとちょっと不自然？な感じがしますね。
普通に “I’m going to clear it tomorrow” と言いますね。
日本語で似てることがあります。
一回「ゲーム」を主語にすると次回言う必要が無くなります。別の主語に変える以外の時ですね。
そんで新しい文章はこれになります。
「昨日一日中新しいゲームをしました。楽しかったです。まだ終わっていませんけれど、明日クリアするつもりです。」
という感じになります。

Just to let you know, you don’t have to repeat 「ゲーム」every time in your sentence.
For example, if in english you were to say the phrase “I’ve been playing this game yesterday. I’m going to clear this game tomorrow” it sounds kinda off, right?
Normally you’d just say "I’m going to clear it tomorrow.
There’s a similar thing in Japanese as well.
Once you’ve set the 「ゲーム」 as the subject of the conversation, the next time you bring up said 「ゲーム」you don’t have to specifically mention the noun.
This is, as long as you don’t switch the subject of the conversation between sentences.
That would make the new sentence as follows:
昨日一日中新しいゲームをしました。楽しかったです。まだ終わっていませんけれど、明日クリアするつもりです。」

かれはつぶやきました : 「自分を滑っる」。
とたん、 はたけでながされてしまった。
万人はぼうぜんだった。
