て links ideas, so you are linking “Yesterday I did a lot of chores” and “Today I am not busy”.
I think your translation actually doesn’t include the idea of “because”, but is simply stating two facts.

as Slysoft wrote 「verb +て」 is similiar to the english and, but it does not link nouns unlike and.
You would probably want to use some form of because / accordingly etc. for what you wanted to express.
There are tons of, but the most common are likely 「から」 and 「ので」。

[I have a very general question, as I noticed it troubles me: How do I express “in”? (as a spatial reference as in I play in a tournament or I am in the stadium, conbini etc. ) I used で here, but don´t think it is correct. Any pointers are greatly appreciated)]
