Hi!
I’ve been reading all the latest news at NHKやさしいことばニュース (formerly, NEWS WEB EASY). I’ve got this feeling that, since the rebranding, the articles have gotten quite shorter and even easier to read. Has someone also felt this?
What I now do is read the article and then press the NEWS WEBでよむ button (when available) and try to read the original article.
Still, this is quite a good way of acquiring new vocabulary and testing your real comprehension of the grammar.
ちなみに, このやさしい日本語についての動画を観て面白かったと思っていたんです。
良い週末を
I played トーム today.
Thanks for the rec pablun^_^ I read the harder version first then the easy version to check comprehension
also, can you explain ending a sentence with an を Please? I don’t get it.
Hi!
Glad to be of help! I will try your method, seems like a better way to improve comprehension.
As for the を ending of the sentence, it is really the short version of ‘良い週末をお過ごしください’. I’ve seen this used to say ‘have a nice weekend’. There is also the expression ‘良い一日を’ (‘have a nice day’), as a short form of ‘良い一日をお過ごしください’.
Come to think of it, it is the same thing that happens with こんにちは (or こんばんは), where the expression ends in は and is actually the short version of a longer formula, ‘今日は、ご機嫌いかがですか’ or ‘今日は、いいお天気ですね’.
Continuing to play through レイトン教授と不思議な町. It’s starting to get easier after about 20 hours, considering I accidentally found myself with the version of the game that doesn’t have any furigana. I basically started on hard mode.
Hi!
In relation to this, I read this article, which I found both interesting and good practice.
良い一日を
I played more Atelier Ayesha this weekend.
I finnished Regina’s and Linca’s storylines. The only two quests I have left are
- craft everything
- kill a dragon for Keith’s story line.
Today a student called me 相棒, which I recognized is what the owner of the café/bar calls my character. He google translated ‘buddy’
This weekend I:
Performed kabuki and updated my profile pic to my Kabuki face.
Spoke alot of Japanese at the Enkai.
Watched Japanese dub of Moana on TV
Read 60 pages of Manga at a manga cafe.
And my 1 year of bunpro subscription is up.
I might keep up this immersion log, maybe once a week.
My Japanese Goal is by the end of my Jet contract (August 2026) I know enough Japanese that I could do the Job I had in the US- inventory management of a factory
I got my 葬送のフリーレン in paper a 3 days ago and successfully read though first 90 pages with little to know problems without looking up anything.
Nice. I also have all 13 volumes in my bookshelf, or well one is on my bedside table.
It just sucks that the shipping cost to Sweden was almost as much as the books themselves. 7,500¥ for the books, 5,500¥ to ship.
Never heard of that site before. Thank you, I’ll keep it in mind for future orders.
I just finished the first tome of よつばと because I want to catch up on the beginner book club, and I really loved it! Usually, it takes me forever to get through books in japanese and it’s either easy but boring or interesting but too hard; and I always give up after a few pages, but this one was awesome ! I’ve never read something with such ease? Such a great recommendation! It helped me gain confidence, at some point I stopped double checking everything because it was so fun I forgot I was immersing, which has never happened to me before. Sorry for the rambling, I’m so happy!!! Really grateful for the book club
I read half of hitori gohan. I picked it up at a convience store
each chapter is about someone going out to eat by their self. and I thing many are ads for real resturants
Chapater 2: boyfriend of two years eats her caviar, and the lunch she packed for work. the confrontation is the best part
She eats lunch out and orders the caviar she’s craving, then goes out again the next day with her friend and recounts all the drama.
I’m watching ソマリと森の神様 anime without subs. Watched episode 5 yesterday.
In unrelated news- I got an email from the internet company that my application has been denied. I’ll go apply to a different company today.
I watched a bunch during winter break, あけましておめでとうございますevery one!
I watched モアナ2 (107分) and ロード・オブ・ザ・リング ローハンの戦い (134分) at the movie theater
I also watched an episode of drifting siblings (23分), Anpan Man (12分 ) Tokyo Grand Mason (117分) on TV =393 minutes
My own version of Amazing Race Japan scoring: (pst 秒 = seconds, 回 is times)
Values below are my approximations of how many minutes of practicing Japanese:
recongition reviews= 15秒/回
cloze reviews= 30秒/回
looking up a Japanese answer= 英語で1分
日本語で2分,
- This means a cure dolly video or reading the grammar info page on bunpro is worth 1 minute. It takes longer to watch the cure dolly video, however the amount of Japanese learned is similar so they both are worth the same number of points.
This also discurages me from watching a bunch of youtube about japanese instead of actually practicing. Checking thesaurus.weblio.jp is worth two points because I learn the new word, and am reviewing the old word
Manga/picture books 1分/ページ
Japanese video or podcast 1分/分
Shadowing/ interperting 2分/分
Yes, this looks dumb. it is more effort so it’s worth more time.
light novel/Newspaper/ text without pictures 5分/ページ
Magazine/internet artical/most webpages/ nutrition facts ect. 1分/each
Speaking 1分/分
writing/texting 1分/文(one minute per sentence written)
Video games- it really depends on the videogame, and how you play
You don’t need Japanese to play (sudoku, color by number) 0/分
Need to understand Japanese instuctions or dialogue intersperced with low japanese gameplay (JRPGs) 30秒/分
reading IS the game play (Ace Attorny, Doki Doki Literature Club) 1 minute/minute
I read a chapter of blue excorsit,
spent an hour making a friend
20 minutes of Japanese talk show
I’ve joined the Winter Read Every Day Challenge on Wanikani forums and so far, I’m (almost) reading every day. While I’m still reading stuff aimed at learners (Tadoku, Satori Reader) I’m getting a little bit braver and reading easier native material. I still have my big manga haul from my visit to Japan from last year to get through. Plus, I’ve finally started to buy stuff on Bookwalker and now have several manga and kids ebooks. I would rather have physical books, but it’s so much cheaper and convenient to buy ebooks. (And space. I really am running out of room for books!)
I watched Japanese TV
I understood some of the jokes on a comedy competion. If the judge likes your joke you get a cushion, if they don’t they’ll take your cushion away.
