Immersion Log Let's try something new!

Read some more sakamoto

I googled non profits in my town. I used so much google translate, it probably doesn’t count as immersion.
There’s a foreigns support meeting at the Community center, so I might start going to that.

I’m doing a listening challenge in August, aiming for an hour a day. Chi’s Sweet Adventure: Summer Vacation is on US Netflix and not only does it have JP subs, it actually has furigana as well! I’m finding that I can understand quite a bit with subs despite my level.

Today, kids anime! Tomorrow… slightly more difficult anime!

I found two new yt-channels today. I’m really happy how well I understood them :relaxed:
Both of them talk really slow and are easy to understand. The videos are 100% in japanese (no english!).

Naoko has subtitles and talks more about every day topics. New words are usually bold and in colour. Harder kanji have furigana on top of them.

いろいろな日本語 is really good at explaining words. I really loved his “LET’S READ YURU CAMP” because of his way to explain hard/unknown vocabs.

I’ve watched 4 episodes of Frieren.
For context, I know like 50 japanese words in total

I saw the first episode of chi’s sweet home about okinawa. It’s cute!

I watched his noragami video. It was fun.

Update: it’s not going well. I think I’m up to 10 hours this month? That is not an hour a day.

I shadowed an episode of dungeon meshi, and the podcast 'let’s learn Japanese from small talk
with the subtitiles turned off this time
shadowing ‘let’s learn Japanese from small talk’ made me hoarse
I shadowed 2 nhk easy articals. NHK easy is much easier.
Hi Neon Kitsune, I want to get better at listening too! You inspired me to do shadowing. Which I haven’t done because it’s too hard.
but I have come along way. I was talking with a friend 'the goal is to be able to watch anime, right?" “Well, I can already do that, with Japanese subtitles. Next step is understanding PA announcments so I know if I have to evacuate”

In the past week:
I’m really into Atelier Ayesha on switch.
Watched 2 more episodes of blue excorcist,
2 episodes of dungeon meshi.
read a chapter of blue excorist when I went to ‘comic corner’ this weekend.
Learned 'なでなで" means pet from app game ねこはほんとうかわいい - what phone games do you guys like? My favorite is anki.

I watched another episode of blue excorist.
and binged 20 hours of atelier saturday.
today around hour 3, I stopped reading the dialog and checking the ノート for the quests instead.
So I’m going out for a walk.

which, I’m impressed. because I usually start tuning out dialog after 15 or 20 minutes.
Maybe because the game doesn’t tell you anything on the HUD execept the in game date?

That does sound familiar. I used to play mobile game プリコネR, the story was light-hearted and fully voiced which is great, and having a clan of fellow appreciators to talk to was nice too. But inevitably I’d start to tune out of dialog and start skipping it to grind the game rather than playing the game to learn the language. and 20 minute long ニャル boss fights during clan battles didn’t help

Great job on keeping focused for hours!

I’m counting the school festival as today’s immersion.

Uh spoiler for dungeon meshi

everything 全部, said 言った treasure宝, shut up 黙って
Yet from context I heard
M:Why is Shiro mad at Laios?
C: That idiot told Shiro everything
M: That we took all of their treasure?
C: Shut up, shut up shut up! No, about you using black magic/ necormancy
Shiro: Whats wrong with you? Why would you do that?
M: Because Falin died I had to try something

I logged back into kanshudo which I haven’t logged into since … July 2020, なつかしい
I did a reading on the website, which might be good way to mine more grammar points but not great for fluentcy. It lists every grammer used in each sentence.
The UI is overwelming

and when you click on an underlined word break down

After playing Fire Emblem for many years now, I finally decided to give it a go in JP.
I just finished the prologue of ファイアーエムブレム烈火の剣 (「草原の少女」), and while I did have to make plenty of new Anki cards (about 80), I didn’t really struggle with anything grammar-wise so far.

That was pretty nice! I got a nice level up as well!
