Immersion Log Let's try something new!

I ended up getting netflix after all, and watched the first 25 minutes of “stand by me doraemon”

it’s still very much above what I can understand, my vocabulary is definitely lagging behind

Read an article in NHK Easy about Shohei Ohtani, and somehow the hardest part was figuring out the katakana. Took too long trying to figure out what イニング meant.

technically not the scope of this thread as it is learning content and not aimed at native speakers, but I watched this today (in full) and was perfectly able to follow along. Very low frustration level. I recommend

I probably watched a total of 3 hours of his videos yesterday and today combined, which leads me to the conclusion, that I can do immersion if it’s low-frustration and I’ve been aiming too high so far.

I missed several days of studying. Today I read 110 pages of 台所のドラゴン- as in the rest of it. I’ll try

again next. If I can read 100 pages of manga in one sitting, it’s time to read an easy novel.

Had some time to kill today, so I read about 50 pages of かがみの孤城 today. I’m nearing the end of it now and would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to read more novels!

It still has the book ribbon from last year at page 47. My goal is page 100 by September 1st
I read 12 pages in an hour.

My preply tutor told me to read this, I’m not done yet:

Usually, I only read manga or watch anime, but I was in the mood to game away a few days, so I started my very first game in japanese!

Zelda:Echoes of Wisdom has been on my to play list for way too long, and the language difficulty seems to be a perfect fit for me  I love how it’s almost full furigana (though you can turn furigana off in the options). It’s the perfect game for when you want to immerse but don’t feel like your concentration can hold up for long. There are not too many mandatory dialogs and they are not too long, so it’s only a small burst of immersion mixed with longer stretches of exploring the world (only reading a few flavor texts or npc stuff).

Thanks for sharing! The text is only using first graders kanji, right? And there are even a few more stories at about the same difficulty. But why in the world is it written left to right?

If you know a few more on similar difficulty levels, I’d love to bookmark them :eyes: the other children stories on the reader overview seem to be similarly easy to parse though (at first sight, haven’t looked into it much yet) Japanese/Reader - Wikibooks, open books for an open world

I don’t know the exact definition or system, but I noticed it barely contains any kanji. You are probably right

Sadly I don’t know any free ressources, but this one 10 Minute Readers - Scary Stories (First Grade) should be around the same level. It’s a whole series of 10 minute stories with different themes.

I was considering learning the kanji in the same order as japanese school children do, cause japanese media is fitted to this progress (like which kanji gets used in manga aimed for kids, and which ones will get furigana). So I at least know my first graders kanji

I sat outside under a tree and read 5 pages モナの物語, then went back into air conditioning and watched an episode of jujutsu kaizen. I’m going to read at the library Sunday.

I read 1 chapter of red-hair snow-white. It’s not on streaming in Japan. So I’ll watch apothecary dairy along with volumes 1-6.
This is different than 20 volumes of Hayate the combat Butler, 12 of Noragami and 6 of Somali that I haven’t read yet. I’ll definatly read all 6 volumes this time [doubt]

I read 20 pages of モナの物語

Read chapter 2 of 赤髪の白雪姫

I have read chapters 3-5 of 赤髪の白雪姫 and chapters 1-3 of ソマリと森の神様. I also watched episodes 1-3 「薬屋のひとりごと」on Netflix.
Both Red hair snow white and Apothecary Dairy are a romance between prince and Apothecary.

I like the Prince more in Red hair snow White, and the Apothecary more in Apothecary Dairy.

I am planning to watch the live-action version of “Teasing Master Takagi San” on Netflix. Since my vocab is probably too bad for it, I made myself a small Netflix to Bunpro pipeline.

The script downloads the subtitles, tokenizes them (tries to guess words), sorts them by how often they occur and then creates a text file which is importable to Bunpro. Still needs a lot of manual correction. I have created a deck for the series and implemented the first two episodes.

I’m sure I made a lot of mistakes, missed or mistagged some words.

use at own risk: Decks | Bunpro

My hope is that picking a series this way will be relatively front-loaded. The episode 2 unit is already substantially smaller than the episode 1 unit, because plenty of words re-occur.

There were rewards for watching Marvel Rivals streams on Twitch, so I kinda stumbled down some Japanese streamer rabbit holes lol.
