signing up for N1 tomorrow just as a personal challenge! i moved back home over 2 years ago now, so that means i passed N2 over 2.5 years ago… time flies. hopefully i still got it, even without the constant immersion! gonna study hard and have fun!! looking forward to using bunpro to help me, i’m quite new to it but it has been very helpful so far ^^

Oh man I feel that. I think it’s just a difference in test construction preferences in the East vs the West. If the bar is 50% to pass, taking a test you feel quite uncomfortable with still makes sense, it’s just hard for those of us who grew up in the 80-100% expectation world to fathom. But I encourage you to go back and try an N2 test. I guarantee your score will be much higher which indicates that regardless of how you feel, you’re definitely improving!

I failed N4 Last December (by 2 points). Since then I’ve read 7 Japanese books and done Wanikani almost every day (only missing like 4 days). I’ve picked up Bunpro last month and am doing the grammar lessons in recognition only (my goal for now is only to read). Once I’m happy with my ability to read, I intend to reset my Bunpro progress and start learning how to produce Japanese as well.

I’ll be trying N2 in July 2026. But that will require fitting in a lot of listening practice in my routine somehow. Currently, I spent about 2 hours per day on Japanese(45 minutes on SRS, 1 hour and 15 minutes reading) and I hope this is enough once I add listening as well.

Apologies if this has already been asked;

just received my confirmation email (yay) and there’s a ‘What’s new this time’ section that includes:

Any ideas what this means?

I signed up for the JLPT N4 in Norway in December!

I am at level 36 WaniKani and currently this far in grammar and vocab (my N5 and N4 grammar is completed)

Learning 15 words a day so should have all N4 vocab in my queue by start of September

I hope by diligently studying this autumn it should be fine, but I’ve never taken the JLPT before. Any good resources for listening and reading practice? I saw Migii mentioned, but do people have experience with any other resources?

Looking forward to failing the N1 again this year :triumph:

Maybe it means that if you took the test in July, you can change your December level after the July results are published in case you failed.

In my mind, “Test Level” means which JLPT level, but it does make the statement weird. I’ll follow up with them if I can be bothered

failing N1 x failing N2

Edit: holyyyyyy… I got a seat for N2 Houston and looked again after I paid and its already sold out

Signed up for N3 in Stuttgart. I tried an N4 practice exam and apart from needing more reading practice it seemed pretty doable already so im def challenging myself with N3.
Pretty new to bunpro so Ive been speedrunning N4/N5 grammar points this month before I do the same to N3.
I dont wanna switch from my anki decks so shortly before the exam so I’ll stick to those for now.
The workload is very intense with around 2h+ everyday but I’ve not given up hope yet.

I have signed up for the N2  I have had N2 grammar completed for quite some time, but I have had hardly any vocabulary practice, so I will be adding 20 per day until test time. We will see how this goes…

The testing location closest to me had N1 seats but doesn’t seem to have even offered N2 seats, I’m hoping they’ll have more for N3 since that’s what I need and it should be a fairly popular test

So I just listened to a few past years N2 questions… :skull: I feel a dorama or anime with lots of office-related vocabulary would be immensely helpful. Are there any funny ones out there?

going to try for N4 in Honolulu again - I’ll be ready at 9am PST on August 25th

The fact I am going to take a Japanese Language test on Dec 7th in Honolulu is slightly ironic and humorous

I decided to challenge myself and take N3. It’s a little ambitious, but I know I’ll do well at least in the listening portion. Time to get cracking on my kanji and grammar!

I just got my N3 spot in New York. It filled up quickly, but not as quickly as I expected. I’m also a bit nervous that I’m being too ambitious. But I agree, the challenge will help motivate me.

I’m officially registered for the N3, I’ve been hovering around 120 on the Migii practice tests and studying the test hardcore since June, with 3 more months I should hopefully pass safely

where were you listening to past N2 questions? I will be taking the N2, so I’m interested…

i’ve been watching 不適切にも程がある!, it does have quite a bit of office content. ive been enjoying it, though a bit too high level to watch without subtitles
