  • N/A, but my estimate is mid N5

Do you enjoy watching Japanese media? If so, what type?

  • Yes, but hardly have time like I used to when younger
  • Type: Drama, Variety Shows, Documentary, Movies, Anime etc
  • Nowadays been listening to NHK Radio on the web instead so I could do other tasks at the same time

Do you enjoy reading Japanese media? If so, what type?

  • Yes, but my level is limited. Mostly light reading before bed and after waking up. Usually repeat reading parts that I’ve yet to understand
  • Type: Manga, Novels, News etc

Would you only like to match with users of your same skill-level?

  • Not necessarily, but my existing Study Group will probably be boring for advanced learners and confusing for absolute beginners

If you are a user of WaniKani, what level are you currently at?

  • 16 at snail’s pace, 3-6 lessons & 60 reviews per day (at the moment 1 level per month average)

What are you truly looking for in a partner?

  • Someone to primarily study with (end of Genki 1 now, highly likely to start Genki 2 on January 2022)
  • Someone to primarily cheer and encourage them
  • Would be fun to have classmates from Bunpro to laugh at Yoshi Sensei’s jokes (he’s a native Japanese who volunteers to teach every weekend in the study group)

Your time zone and availability (morning, afternoon, evening)

  • Saturdays 10 PM JST
    (Afternoon in European time, Super Late Oz time and Too Early for Americans, I think)

  • I have not taken a real test, however, I can complete the JLPT N3 practice tests with relative ease.

Do you enjoy watching Japanese media? If so, what type?

  • Yes, mainly anime, but I am open for other media such as J-drama, etc…

Do you enjoy reading Japanese media? If so, what type?

  • Yes, Ive tried reading some novels and manga but this was a while ago. I mainly have difficulty in finding good reading material.

Would you only like to match with users of your same skill-level?

  • Would be nice, but not necessary.

If you are a user of WaniKani, what level are you currently at?

  • I never used WaniKani, but I study all my vocabulary with the kanji, so it is higher than JLPT N3 requires. *

What are you truly looking for in a partner?

  • Someone to share experiences, share media and work together. Also for accountability and conversing in Japanese, as I have not practised that a bit and would love to.

  • Timezone is GMT+1 (Brussels), availability mainly in the evening.

I haven’t but reading & gammar would be N5, listening comprehension would be <N5

Yes, I watch a bit of anime on crunchyroll & netflix, SRS studying permitting. Watching anime with my daughter was the being of my journey

Yes, read a lot of scanlated manga. Aspire to read light-novels. Currently smashing graded readers!

Everyone & anyone

Currently at 18, though it’s the second time round (got to 11, quit for 4 months and came back)

What are you truly looking for in a partner?

Someone to help me finally use that Genki textbook that’s been patiently waiting for about a year now. I’d like to take JLPT N5 when it stops being cancelled in this country.

  • Yes - whatever i can get my hands on. I like various manga, but also read the nuewspapers that come in at work. Ok, try to read them. I try to read the local Japanese monthly, too.

  • Yes - prefer but open to whatever.

  • 60, but I swear I am backsliding daily. Or I need to do it again. Or something.

I’m probably somewhere between N4 and N3. I know little bits of N2 and N1. My knowledge is like swiss cheese.

I sometimes watch an anime or two. But I don’t really even watch TV in English. A few shows here and there but I’m not a TV/movie buff. Mostly, I play games.

Do you enjoy reading Japanese media? If so, what type?

No. Not through a lack of interest, just no idea where to begin books are currently too difficult. I enjoy games currently going through FF7, want to find FF9 in JP.

Someone to send and receive grammar fuelled messages of confusion and anger.
Someone to talk about Japan life with.
And if you’re from Japan, Yamanashi, Ibaraki, or Kansai then great I live/lived in those places.

Studying alone is not always an easy task, that’s why I am mainly looking for someone to share ups and downs, to motivate each other, to share progress, to discuss difficulties, to challenge each other…
I don’t think I will have time (on a regular basis) to do lessons together or stuff like that.
I would like to focus more on reading as I think it is the best choice for now to progress efficiently

  • All of the above - anything and everything. Probably for mutual encouragement, enjoying progress together, discussing strategies and tools. Oh, and sending / receiving lots of memes.

  • I haven’t taken it yet. So I’d say I’m in the N5 level.

  • My main goal is to read manga. I own a bunch of them. I’d also like to play games in Japanese.

  • Currently at level 17. I am stuck in this level as I have a big backlog that I can’t seem to clean. And started to forget some things so rather keep doing this for a while
