Yes, something like that would be very helpful I think.
Not related, so sorry for being off topic, but I didn’t recognise @Daru without the enthusiastic support of Matsuoka Shuzo…
However. Cat. Cat good.
Sure,
The red-to-gold emblems scratched my game progression itch, and the old ghost was kind of a lowkey mascot character for me. I assume he’s been replaced by a FontAwesome one?
Overall, to me it seems like one step towards the common stylistic trajectory of many apps that started out unique and fun, and then became more “flat” as time went on and they got bigger. A bit of aesthetic personality was lost to fit with what is prescribed as correct for the times, or to make it more phone-friendly.
If I’m the only one, I’d settle for hotlinks to the old pngs to jury-rig it for myself with a custom css extension, lol
More decks would be great, though I just had the idea that a deck for 古文 in the same manner of the 関西弁 deck would be exceedingly useful
Hi Okayfrog, sorry for the late reply from us! Most of that specific type of hint was written a very long time ago, and we would like to improve this in addition to other polishing work we are currently doing.
Apologies for the poor experience here! We will do our best to make this consistent with the primary grammar page as soon as possible.
In the meantime, perhaps using the nuance hint may be helpful? They were all rewritten quite recently and should reflect the information you would have learned on the grammar page a lot closer.
Looks like N3 items got shifted with overflow to the left two times. Most of these items near the end of N3 I remember being at the beginning of it.
Edit: Whoops, didn’t notice there was a separate feedback thread for bugs.
Long time SRS user… was using Stackz on Windows & Windows Mobile (pre-iPhone) and moved my vocabulary lists to Flashcards Deluxe.
Bunpro is great because it helps take care of grammar examples - my weakest area.
I tend to make the same mistakes even with simple grammar points, and one possible reason is not having a firm grasp on the differences, nuances, or rules for each grammar concept.
In addition to grammar sentences, it might be beneficial to add several different approaches that emphasize the fundamentals of each grammar point as multiple choice.
This could be expressed in several different ways:
- True / False
- Pick the Most Appropriate
- Select why
True / False
Examples: (Correct answers are bolded)
- だ = to be, is
- True or False
- です = to be, is
- True or False
- だ cannot be used with い-adjectives
- True or False
- だ can be used with い-adjectives
- True or False
Pick the Most Appropriate
Fill in the ______, which is the most appropriate?
_____寝坊したの?
- また
- だいたい
- ところが
- から
Fill in the ______, which is the most appropriate?
私は、___旅行に行くつもりです。
- そして
- だいたい
- ところが
- また
Select why
In the following example, why is grammar point most appropriate?
ここがいいだろう?
Definitions of the incorrect answers were pulled from かしら、ここ、も as a proof-of-concept.
- だろうExpresses that the speaker thinks that something is true (assertion/expectation), and also that the listener would probably agree with them.
- だろうis a standalone 終助詞 (sentence-ending particle) that works in a similar way to かも, by expressing the speaker’s uncertainty about the previous statement.
- だろう represents ‘this place’, or simply ‘here’.
- だろう can mean ‘too/also’, or ‘even’, or ‘neither/either’, depending on if the sentence is affirmative or negative.
Hey, I’m not sure if it’s been suggested before, but I would like it if I could select either the male or female voice for auto playing during reviews.
Same for what is default during lesson examples. Thanks
I really like the sample sentences for the vocabulary but I struggle with reading in the way they’re shown at the moment. Any plans on displaying the kanji with furigana on top, instead of showing it in parentheses?
Or can I change it somewhere in the settings?
And… talking of example sentences for vocab, is there any way to cram those too?
This is a bug we will have fixed with the next patch! Sorry about that.
@Marcus there isn’t right now, but it is on the roadmap…
Wow! That’ll be amazing! You guys are amazing!
I can’t seem to find a grammar topic は as a contrast marker. Is this missing?
I’d love it we were told if particular verbs were godan or ichidan when doing reviews, in the same way we’re told if something is [casual] or [polite] at the top of the screen. There have been so many times where I’ve gotten an answer wrong because I conjugated it as a godan instead of an ichidan, or vice versa. I appreciate that this is how some people learn if a verb is goddan or ichidan, but for me it just slows down the reviewing of the actual grammar point itself.
It’d be cool if perhaps you could toggle this information? In the same way you can toggle ‘always show nuance’ in the settings, if you could toggle ‘always show if godan or ichidan’, that would make things so much easier. Then users can decide themselves if they want to use it. It’s just such a nuisance getting everything spelled correctly in a review and understanding the review point, only for you to have to re-type because of something so tedious. I’d probably end up learning to differentiate the godan/ichidan faster if it just told me which one it is at the top of the screen. Thanks!
It would be nice if there would be an option to toggle the English translations in example sentences included in in the grammar explanations the way you can with normal example sentences. Even if I try to, it is difficult not to read the translations first.
I would like to see a mode that’s more in line with some of the JLPT formatting. That would make for amazing practice for the exams!
I don’t expect the reading questions! But the starred ones for certain and some of the basic “What particle goes here?” from the choices, without an option to go back and correct. This obviously would be it’s own type of mode though because it would need to be multiple choice
I know this is pretty specific, but has there been any consideration to moving ため / ために from N3 to early N4? A few reasons:
- It’s an extremely common grammar point that I hear all the time
- Lots of existing N4 Bunpro example sentences use it already
- It shows up in a lot of N4 test prep materials, and I can confirm it’s on the actual N4
I’m not sure if this has been mentioned or not, but when learning vocabulary, it’d be nice to have more parts of speech included, specifically: transitive, intransitive.
I understand that the main focus is on grammar and features relating to that, but this is just my thought.
Unless I’m just not seeing that information.
If possible, I think it’d be nice if recently missed grammar could be added as an option for cram.
Also, while I’m at it. I sent feedback about として some time ago but it was never responded to. I came across the sentence 医師がいないとして受診はできなかったということです a while back and never could figure out what として meant in this context. I pretty much had to scour everywhere - and even after being explained the meaning, it took me some searching to find a formal definition for it. Is it possible that this meaning could be touched on somewhere? - 活用語の終止形を受けて》…という理由で。…という名目で。(from 明鏡国語辞典). I’ve actually come across it being used this way a couple times now - I’m not saying it should get it’s own point or anything but I think it’d be helpful for others to have a brief mention of this meaning since there’s no English explanation of it being used this way (that I could find at least).
