Bunpro Changelog

The goal of this tread is to provide you with a way to see the updates we make to Bunpro in realtime. Since we only tend to post on the site or send an email out for major updates, an update thread will help quench your thirst for progress between those major announcements.

We will update this thread weekly/bi-weekly.

September 1, 2020 - WK API V2 + New Audio

WK API Version 2

Bunpro is now compatible with version 2 of the Wanikani API.

Bunpro will now hide furigana for kanji at SRS level 5 (guru) or above.

You can update your API token to version 2 in your settings.

New Audio

@Asher and Haruna have recorded, edited, and uploaded over 1400 new sentences from N3’s 第一 to N2’s 確かに.

This means that all of the audio for N3 is complete. We have uploaded the last batch of N3 to Bunpro and you can download the files from Google Drive.

N2 Google Drive.

Thanks again to Asher and Haruna for all of their hard work.

August 26, 2020 - First Batch of N1, Lesson 3

からある・からいる - as much as, as many as, at least

にして② - to be ~ and ~, to be ~ as well as ~, both ~ and ~

つ〜つ - two contrasting actions

くまでも② - just, only merely, strictly

であれ〜であれ - whether or, or, no matter which, in either case

August 9, 2020 - N1, Lesson 2 Fourth and Final Batch

にしてみたら・にしてみれば - for, in the case of, if A were to look at it, in the eyes of A

だの - things like, and so on, or something, and whatnot

くまでも - to the (bitter) end, stubbornly, persistently

ところ(を) - when, while, in spite of (the circumstances), regardless of (the circumstances)

August 6, 2020 - Audio Update

@Asher and Haruna have recorded, edited, and uploaded over 360 new sentences from 〜ようとする to で言うと. These sentences are now available on Bunpro and for download on Google Drive.

August 5, 2020 - UI/UX Update - Text Color ・Dynamic Review Hints

We have modified some features to make Bunpro more accessible and to improve your overall experience.

We have changed the color of nuance hints, grammar notes, and other text that was originally orange to improve legibility when using Modern in your display settings.

Hints that appear in the answer blank now move to above the Japanese sentence when you start typing instead of disappearing.

July 19, 2020 Updates - Faster/Improved Search, Updated Summary Page, Bug Fixes

Faster Search
The All page under Grammar now loads just N5, followed by the rest of the NX levels. This should greatly improve loading speeds allowing you to find exactly what you are looking for more quickly.

Improved Search
We have added “metadata” to grammar points. This allows us to assign keywords (tags) and add obscure meanings to grammar points without cluttering up the grammar point’s main page. What this essentially means is that as we add more metadata to grammar points, you will be more likely to find what you are looking for when searching for, even if the search term you used does not appear on the grammar point’s main page.

Updated Summary Page
We have added headers to separate correctly and incorrectly answered items on the Summary page. This change was made to help users with color vision deficiency to differentiate right and wrong answers.

Various Bug fixes

We have also updated the explanations for each grammar point, expanded upon existing structures, and added more answers that guide you to the correct answer rather than mark you incorrectly.

Now that N1, Lesson 1 has 6 + sentences we will begin adding Lesson 2 grammar points. Similar to Lesson 1, Lesson 2’s grammar points will be organized by frequency and build upon the grammar that you have learned in previous lessons.

*Resetting your reviews will not affect Self-Study questions.

N3 Lesson 6 - N3, Lesson 6 now has 12 example sentences and 12 review questions!

Update - July 6, 2018

Ghost Reviews

Introducing Ghost Reviews

  • Ghost Reviews are reviews that you have gotten incorrect and come back to haunt you (leeches). If you get an item incorrect, that particular sentence will automatically be added to your review queue in addition to your normal reviews.

  • Ghost Reviews utilize a separate SRS so that you can devote extra attention to a specific sentence/nuance while you continue to receive new sentences and progress in your normal reviews.

  • You will see your Ghost Review sentence six times over the course of one month. The SRS intervals for Ghost Reviews are: 4 hours, 8 hours, 24 hours, 2 days, 4 days, 8 days, 2 weeks, 20 years. *Intervals will be shorter if you get the sentence incorrect.

  • With the implementation of Ghost Reviews, you will no longer get stuck in a review loop where, if you miss a sentence, you go back and see old sentences again. Instead, whether you get a grammar point correct or not, you will be able to further advance through the sentences on Bunpro! *Grammar points will still drop an SRS interval if incorrect.

The navbar has been removed on mobile for Reviews, Cram and Study quizzes to give you a more seamless and intuitive study session.

Choose Ghost Review Aggressiveness

  • When Ghost Reviews are set to ‘ON’ in settings, a Ghost Review will be created for a sentence if you miss it once in your reviews. Set Ghost Reviews to ‘Minimal’ to only add a sentence to Ghost Reviews if you miss the same sentence more than once.

Tweaks to Ghost Review SRS

  • Ghost Review intervals are now 4 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours, and 48 hrs, meaning that you will see your Ghost sentence four times over the course of the next four days.

Ability to remove all Ghost Reviews

  • You can now remove all Ghost Reviews from your review queue by clicking on Profile, Reset and selecting Ghost Reviews from the dropdown menu.

Reset Progress

  • You can now reset your Bunpro reviews! Click on Account, Profile, Reset and select the reviews that you would like to reset. Select Normal (All), Ghost Reviews, or a JLPT level and click reset to remove reviews from that particular category. Reset reviews will behave as if they have never been added to your review queue; there will no longer be any statistics or SRS level associated with them. Think of resetting your reviews as a way to wipe the slate clean and start anew.
*Resetting your reviews will not affect Self-Study questions.

  • Based upon feedback the community has provided, we have made various small changes to the size/spacing of elements across the site as well as to how some parts of the site work to improve your overall experience.

The text you input is now yellow to match the example sentences and so that you can better distinguish the grammar points from the surrounding information.

Your input also changes depending on whether or not you get an answer correct so that you can better visualize your progress.
