日本語でおk[乙~スラ(28)]

Hey everyone! :raising_hand_man:

みんなは休みの間ちゃんと休めた?

俺は休みの間サウナに通いまくった!やっぱ、サウナは最高すぎ! :hotsprings:

さて、そんなことはさておき、let’s dig into today’s topic!

日本語でおk?:crossed_flags:

Have you ever encountered a text post or a comment that makes absolutely no sense? Like you know that it is in the language you understand, and you know every word and grammar used in the sentence, but the content is written in such a way that it is like reading some sort of secret code?

This occurrence is not unique to any one language, and it happens in Japanese since Japanese can can sometimes be difficult, even for natives!

In THIS blog post, I made a reference to a thread. In this thread, the poster was trying to explain as best as they could on how to eat a burger without making a mess, and if you guys have tried reading it, the sentences that were written by this OP were a mess and impossible to understand (more like de-code).

As a response to the series of difficult to understand comments, a commenter replied with 「日本語でおk」, to let the OP know that what they were saying made not sense.

This is a common phrase used in a situation like this, but before continuing on with this, let’s talk about what we are all wondering.

Why is it おk? :ok_man: :ok_woman:
Is it different from OK or okay? Does it Have a different nuance?

The answer is no, it is not different nor does it have a different nuance. So why おk?

The answer is simple, it is because it is a pain to type ‘nihonngode + space (to convert to kanji) + (hold shift) O+K’ to display the OK in English. This is way too much effort for netizens.

It is easier and faster to type ‘nihongodeok + space’, and it just so happens that the system converts it into 日本語でおk instead of 日本語でOK. Nothing too deep, just people on the internet being lazy!

Origin :open_book:

This phrase was first used in 2005 on a thread titled ‘ウルトラマンが悩みを聞いてあげるスレッド ’on a board called モテない男性板 on 2ちゃんねる. In this thread, a user commented ジュワワワジュワワ、ジュワジュワジュジュワワワワワ?and the OP responded with;

— / || :ヽ
┌|(⌒ヽ :|| …:⌒: |┐ / ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄
|::|::ヽ.__:):||(ノ ::|::expressionless:
|:|: … :|| … |:| │
:|: … || …|| < >>2日本語でおk
:\ [ ̄] /::expressionless:
:: |\|
|
|
|
/:::expressionless: \________
__| | / / :|___

Ascii of Ultraman saying 日本語でおk

When is this phrase used? :man_shrugging:

As mentioned earlier, this is usually used when a poster or a commenter posts without using any punctuation, or when someone writes using very wonky grammar.

Another instance is when someone uses a lot of technical words. For example, if I said「今日はタナ2ヒロぐらいで安定しました」to a person that is new to fishing or to a person who has no interest in fishing, they would probably reply back with 「日本語でおk」since that sentence contains technical terms, and without prior knowledge it just sounds like gibberish.

Another instance this would be used is when someone just wants to agitate the poster. What this means is that this phrase would be used when the person replying wants to make sure that the poster knows that what they said was extremely stupid and that they should feel bad about it (mostly used in a joking way).

死語? :skull_and_crossbones:

Although this internet slang is old, it is used very frequently, even in 2025 and as long as there are posters that just post just for the sake of posting without really thinking about what they are posting, the phrase 日本語でおk will not go out of fashion, unless a better phrase is invented of course. Since this is such a timeless phrase, you can start using this phrase today, without worrying about people judging you for using an old slang.

今日はここまで!

みんなは今年の目標は決めた?

俺は目標何個かあるけど、一つ目はもっと本を読むこと! :open_book:

そういえば、今週めちゃくちゃ寒くなるらしいから、風邪にならないようにね!
